Description:
Thallus is a dark reddish-purple to reddish-brown blade, to 10 cm (4 in) tall although usually smaller, slightly rubbery, simple or more often lobed or cleft, sometimes with large cystocarps. Habitat: Mid to low intertidal rock on moderately exposed to protected shores. Similar taxa: Mazzaella oregona, M. parksii, and M. phyllocarpa share the same morphology but differ primarily in habitat and distribution.
